Passion Week
This past Thursday, we wanted to do something meaningful with our youth to allow them to understand the fullness of Easter and all that it means. As a result, we had a time of praise and worship and showed "The Passion of the Christ". It was a risk, we weren't sure how they would respond or if they would take it seriously. In the end, many of us agreed it was the best night of youth group we have ever had (and one of the boys said the same thing!). They participated in the praise and worship and during the movie, watched with respect and awe. Afterwards, I shared some Scripture and explained why we watched it, and why Jesus went through that much pain and suffering- then I opened it up to questions. The way the kids responded was amazing. The questions were deep and meaningful. Things like "Did God really forgive them?" "How was Jesus talking to God if He was God?" and my favorite comment "Jesus really forgave them? That's the real thing!" This was from a boy who's face showed that he was moved by the movie and he had a lot of thoughts and questions about it. This conversation lead to us being able to share how we are in need of the same kind of forgiveness, and the cross makes it possible. The Spirit was definitely moving through out the evening and it was so humbly and amazing to be a part of!
